**Introduction to Fraction:**

**Fraction** is a number which represents a part of whole number. Fraction has two different parts. They are Numerator (top number) and Denominator(bottom number). Fraction is represented as `1/5` .

Fractions are used in real life problems.

For example,

A Collection of 15 bats, 7 are used. The fraction represents as `7/15` .

Let us see how to write fraction as words.

**If the denominator is number 2, we write the fraction as words in half.**

For example,

`1/2` is going to write in words as one – half.

`3/2` is going to write in words as three – halves.

`5/2` is going to write in words as five – halves.

`15/2` is going to write in words as fifteen – halves, likewise so on.

**If the denominator is number 3, we write the fraction as words in half.**

For example,

`1/3` is going to write in words as one – thirds.

`2/3` is going to write in words as two – thirds.

`5/3` is going to write in words as five – thirds.

`17/3` is going to write in words as seventeen – thirds, likewise so on.

**If the denominator is number 4, we write the fraction as words in half.**

For example,

`1/4` is going to write in words as one – fourths.

`3/4` is going to write in words as three – fourths.

`5/4` is going to write in words as five – fourths.

`16/4` is going to write in words as sixteen – fourths, likewise so on.

**If the denominator is larger number, we write the fraction as words following.**

For example,

`3/16` is going to write in words as three – sixteenths.

`5/21` is going to write in words as five twenty – firsts, likewise so on.

**If the denominator is much larger number in a fraction, we use to write words in following,**

For example,

`3/416` is going to write in words as three four hundred sixteenth.

`5/256` is going to write in words as five two hundred fifty six.

**If the fraction is mixed form, we use to write words in following,**

For example,

5 `1/2` is going to write in words as five one – halves.

4 `1/3` is going to write in words as four one-third.

**Find the sum of five-tenths and two-tenths . **

**Solution:**

5/10 is written in words as five - tenths.

2/10 is written in words as two - tenths.

Here `5/10` and `2/10` are like fractions. That is we have denominators are same. So we just add numerators together and keep the denominator same.

Thus sum of two fractions are,

`5/10` + `2/10`

= `(5+2)/10`

= `7/10`

Therefore, **Sum of `5/10` and `2/10` is `7/10` .**

7/10 is written in words as seven - tenths.
